The American University International Law Review (AUILR) publishes timely and original works on a wide variety of international legal topics including public and private international law, the law of international organizations, international trade law, international environmental law, international arbitration, and international human rights. AUILR also publishes pieces on foreign and comparative law that are of particular interest to the international legal community.
Please submit manuscripts to AUILR via Scholastica. Alternatively, email your complete manuscript to our Senior Articles Editor. Please also include [Submission] in the email subject line to ensure prompt consideration. All manuscripts should be in Microsoft Word. A CV or Resume is also appreciated.
Note: AUILR only accepts submissions from individuals who have obtained a J.D. or equivalent degree. We do not accept submissions from current students.
Manuscript Guidelines:
Length: AUILR publishes articles of varying lengths and styles but prefers submissions under 25,000 words (including main text, footnotes, and appendices).
Style: Submissions should use footnotes for citations and additional explanatory text. Additionally, please include a cover page with the title of the work, your name as you prefer to be listed in the publication, an abstract, your affiliation and, if desired, any other bibliographical information and acknowledgments.
Citations: AUILR uses the Bluebook, 22nd Edition as our citation style guide. For non-English language sources and personal research, please provide detailed and accurate citation information and have digital source copies available, if possible.
AI Policy: To maintain academic and professional integrity, AUILR permits the use of Artificial Intelligence (AI) tools under the following conditions: brainstorming and idea generation, and concept clarification. For brainstorming and idea generation, the author may use AI to help explore topics, generate potential arguments or perspectives, or identify key themes before writing begins. For concept clarification, the author may use AI to assist in explaining technical concepts, summarizing background material, or recommending additional sources. AUILR prohibits the use of AI for drafting the Article. The Author must independently produce all of the writing of the Article. AUILR does not permit the use of AI to write any portion of the Article. AUILR expects the Author to use AI responsibly and transparently. The Author must verify the factual nature of the AI-generated claims.
